The Modern Face of Personal Growth

Our MMC Retreat 8.0 Attendees, Durham, NC Fall 2023

How personal growth impacts your professional results.

New year… new quarter… January… fresh starts… we get it! We love talking about personal growth, so much so that we made it one of our core values at MMC:

“Life is a collection of experiences and decisions. We believe that growth should happen every day, so we make better decisions, positively impact the world around us, and feel good about ourselves.”

We’re guessing that you don’t always think of personal and professional growth as being intertwined. However, more and more experts (like my own coach and nanny industry juggernaut Candice Cartner) concur that there’s a powerful intertwined relationship between personal and professional growth.

Human development is holistic and undeniably connects “individual you” with “business you.”

THIS two-for-the-price-of-one domino effect is precisely what we need in our world full of to-do lists and packed calendars.

So, by achieving something like making healthy food choices (for instance), you feel more comfortable and confident in your clothes, thus improving your self-confidence, which translates to bold negotiating skills.

Here are some examples of how an individual's commitment to self-improvement often serves as the catalyst for improved performance, satisfaction, and success in their work life.

Personal growth goal: Be a better listener.

Professional growth echo: Better understand your client base.

When you become a better listener, you also start reading between the lines. This handy-dandy skill translates to hearing what goes unsaid from your team members and customers. This enables you to not only get to the crux of the matter when someone’s openly sharing their concerns, but also helps you proactively respond because you “heard it” coming a mile away.

Personal growth goal: Stop people-pleasing.

Professional growth echo: Communicate your expectations and boundaries.

You can’t “just” improve your communication skills for personal use, in the same way that you can’t “just” benefit from working out by fitting into your jeans. Fine-tuning the art of expressing yourself and setting boundaries—with your spouse, children, overly demanding friends, or even neighbors—will prepare you to do the same within your business alliances.

Personal growth goal: Be more intentional about your time.

Professional growth echo: Better explain what makes your brand unique to attract your ideal client.

You know the client you want to buy your service and/or product. You can picture their avatar, and if you can’t, we’ll help you find crystal clarity at our retreat! But this is one you have to reverse engineer; you must pull your ideal client to you by strategically marketing your brand directly to them.

Personal growth goal: Be more intentional about your time.

Professional growth echo: (You guessed it.) Be more intentional about your time.

Scroll on social media less? Hire a house manager to reorganize your garage so that you can redistribute that time to bake cookies with your children? Brilliant! No one ever says, “I wish I delegated that mundane task later.” And that goes double for “business you.”

Find someone you trust to handle your administrative work so you can brainstorm new services with like-minded nanny agency owners. (We know the perfect opportunity coming right up!) And once you “let go” of the little things, it results in a snowball effect of more time well spent.
